As an intern, you’ll learn directly from seasoned nonprofit communicators who know how to translate complex missions into powerful digital narratives.
About the Role
We’re looking for a creative, story-obsessed Digital Content Creator Intern or freelancer to produce short-form videos that spotlight nonprofits, social impact, and the people driving change. If you love creating hype-style videos, experimenting with trends, and bringing meaningful stories to life, this role is for you.
This position requires on-site filming at nonprofit locations, events, or interviews across the Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill). Applicants must be local and comfortable capturing footage in the field.
What You’ll Do
- Create one polished short-form video weekly (15–60 seconds)
- Participate in onsite filming: capturing interviews, b-roll, action shots, and event content
- Work closely with BC/DC’s leadership team to brainstorm concepts, develop storyboards, and shape the narrative arc for each video
- Translate nonprofit programs, missions, and impact into visually engaging content
- Edit footage using your preferred tools (CapCut, Premiere, Final Cut, etc.)
- Join creative and strategy sessions to align content with campaign goals
- Pitch new ideas based on social media trends and platform behavior
What You Bring
- Background (coursework or experience) in digital media, video production, communications, or marketing
- Passion for nonprofits, community stories, and mission-driven content
- A strong portfolio or sample videos
- Experience filming with a phone or camera; comfort filming on-site is essential
- Ability to independently manage the weekly production cycle
- Creative instincts for pacing, editing, and emerging platform trends
- A collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn
What You’ll Learn

- A complete creative workflow from idea to publication
You’ll walk away with a portfolio of videos crafted in partnership with experts in nonprofit communications.
Time Commitment
- 5-8 hours per week – 1 hour online meeting with the BC/DC Ideas staff, 1-2 hours onsite filming,1 hour travel, 2-4 hours editing/revisions
- One video delivered weekly
- Must be available for weekday onsite shoots
Compensation
January – May – $500 per month for consistent weekly production.
